#CIRCUS FROM ALESSI IS A REAL #CIRCUS BY #MARCELWANDERS

During the London Design Festival Alessi held a launch party at Harrods to introduce their new collection by design guru Marcel Wanders of Moooi. A vivid circus theme from harlequin patterns to clowns and ballerinas. I like the stainless steel bowls and their happy patterns but not so sure about the china and glass jars. One jar in glass, with a horse pattern that could have been picked straight from the Internet, with a metal lid, was sold for £35. This kind of jar can be found in any candy- or gift shop for a couple of quid. The china I feel like I have seen before, at Marimekko in the 1960s, by the Ten Group in Sweden, by Ikea and lately (before Alessi) Charlene Mullen (see below). I am not sure what is going on here. Marcel himself was at the event (dressed in jeans and a "shaggy" jacket). I am sorry to have to say, being a huge fan of Marcel Wanders and Alessi, that this collection feels fabricated and not designed at all.

Bowls in stainless steel and china bowls in two sizes.

The launch at Harrods was a happy and joyful experience in spite of the "fabricated design".

This bottle opener are numbered and one of the more "unique designs" of this collection.
Pieces shown during London Design Festival at and by Charlene Mullen in Shoreditch.
More by Charlene Mullen...

Charlene Mullen's work again.

Charlene Mullen.
This bowl was part of a small collection by Ikea two years ago. In this collection there was also a wallpaper and a coffee cup with saucer.
